Spit

I spent my childhood with people spitting on my eyebrow. Old ladies with foul breaths. Mouth full of germs. On My “dali” eyebrow. The one i was born with. I have 2 month old photos to prove it. I don’t curl it every morning like some say. I don’t even comb my hair or own a hairbrush, nonetheless, an eyebrow. It just happens to be another hair tornado, but instead of my hair I have a third one in my eyebrow. Can you imagine having others people saliva to try to tame my rebellious eyebrow that not even waxing puts it down.

Folks who love Folk

My hobby is to collect Latin folk beauty pomades that only found in street markets and rural villages in Latin America. More and more, they are starting to disappear due to cheap and “modern” imported beauty products that are destroying our beauty heritage essentials.
These precious tins with salves, little plastic bottles with flower water, musk like scented hair oil and little hand cut squares of cocoa butter wrapped in aluminum foil have a sacred place in my house and my heart.

VONNE is inspired by these Latino folk essentials our great- grandmothers swore by that was passed on to our grandmothers. The basics for a daily beauty ritual that kept them wrinkle-free, perfumed, hydrated and with a full lock of healthy hair.

I have feared the day they completely disappear so wherever I travel in Latin America, my boyfriend knows I have to go to street markets and stock up for my collection.

We stopped believing in these secrets because they are “outdated.” For the sake of revival, in the name of effectiveness and in honor of our culture…VONNE is bringing them back because they are authentic and they work.
They Work.

Ray of Fate

VONNE was born in Quimicas Handal in 2011, Mr. Fuad let me use his laboratory to start developing it. QH manufactures shoe polish, tins, candles, and to my surprise at the time also a line of these traditional medicinal remedies I passionately adore. I couldn’t believe it, he was the one that made “RAYO,” and just like the name, a ray of thunder penetrated my heart.

I remembered what I always told myself in high school, “one day I will make my own lip balms.” I was known to stare at the clock on the wall waiting for class to end while gliding lip balm on my lips of all flavors from side to side for 30 minutes on end.
It was not casualty, but fate… I had my uncle’s tins, ancestral remedy inspiration, memorization of my high school dreams and a little faith. (In tins you cannot put formulas with water, such as creams, you can only use them for balms if not they oxidize…) So, it was destiny as I said: balms, salves, & pomades.

So, they made my magical tins, (I chose gold color because in my past life I was an alchemist), and we began with those Latino folk remedies. Of course…
NOTE: If I were limited to only one beauty product for everyday, it would be a balm. A balm can be used in any part of your body (literally, from hair to toes). It is more hydrating than a cream (because it doesn’t have water) and if it smells good, has good texture and good ingredients that is the only thing I really need.
