98 Lightbulbs

The uncertainty that comes with the need to reinvent your product in order to survive defines the line between greed or altruism. The uncertainty suffered makes you question what your offering will do for the society at large. Is society at loss if your product fails? Is it worth your effort, resources and sanity to keep trying?

They say it took Thomas Edison 98 tries to develop the lightbulb. The frustration he endured could be “altruistic” in the sense that he suffered for the public good. If his invention was a success it would benefit society at large. Therefore, he if he did well so would the country.

Could you say that Edison acted selflessly in a disinterested manner for the well-being of others? Was Thomas Edison an altruist or a greedy businessman?
